Exercise With A Difference At Angusfield

Residents at Angusfield Care Home in Aberdeen enjoyed a fun-filled activity session with a difference, combining balloon games, karaoke and dancing to get everyone moving while having plenty of laughs along the way.

The afternoon began with a lively balloon game that quickly brought out everyone’s competitive side. Residents took part in a challenge to see how many balloons they could get through a hoop, with plenty of determination from those taking part and encouragement from everyone watching.

Although the game was simple, it provided a great way to get residents moving and involved. Reaching, stretching and moving to keep the balloons going gave everyone the chance to be active without the session feeling like traditional exercise.

The fun continued with karaoke, giving residents the opportunity to sing along to some favourite songs. Before long, there was some dancing too, with residents enjoying the music and joining in however they wanted.

Combining movement with activities residents already enjoy can be a great way to encourage physical activity in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Sessions such as this can provide opportunities to work on coordination and movement while also encouraging social interaction, confidence and plenty of smiles.

Most importantly, the afternoon was about having fun together. There was lots of laughter, encouragement and friendly competition, creating an atmosphere where everyone could get involved at their own pace.

At Angusfield, activities are designed to give residents opportunities to stay active, socialise and enjoy new experiences together. This session was a wonderful example of how exercise does not always have to feel like exercise. Sometimes, a few balloons, some favourite songs and a little dancing are all that is needed to get everyone moving.
