Therapet Trial Brings Smiles To Angusfield House

Last month we were thrilled to become the first care home in the UK to take part in an exciting trial of the new Virtual Reality (VR) Therapet experience. Developed by a doctor from Japan, this innovative technology uses a VR headset to encourage movement, conversation, positive emotions, and relaxation among residents.
The app has been carefully designed to be simple and accessible, making it particularly suitable for people living with dementia. Once wearing the headset, residents can experience the joy of having a virtual pet cat or dog appear right in the room with them, while still being able to see their surroundings. They can name their pet, play ball, feed it, and even enjoy stroking its tummy, bringing a lifelike and heartwarming interaction to life.

The trial was met with excitement and curiosity from both residents and staff. It was wonderful to see how the immersive experience inspired engagement and emotional wellbeing. We look forward to welcoming the VR Therapet back in the new year and continuing to explore how technology can enhance the lives of those in our care.
Our experienced team is dedicated to providing person-centred care around the clock, giving our residents the confidence to live their lives knowing we’re here to support them if they need it - book a tour today.
